A Simple Stress Management Method!

Hello everyone!

As I promised last week, I will reveal a simple stress management method. I'll explain the "how" of the method this week and then next week I'll explain why it works so well.

Obviously, you'll need to read this over a few times to understand what you'll be doing, or record yourself reading the instructions so you can simply listen.

Here we go...

First, sit or lay down in a comfortable place. Close your eyes. Take a nice, deep, relaxing breath...Breath deeply, naturally. Deep, slow breaths....

Now think of the word "calm" written in front of you. See the word written in front of you on a chalkboard, or maybe those colorful fridge magnets, or maybe big neon letters. However you see the word "calm" written in front of you.

Hear the word "calm" in your mind's ear, in a soft, yet confident and reassuring tone of voice...Hear the word "calm" and see the word "calm," over and over...

While you see and hear the word "calm" continue to breathe in slowly, deeply and evenly...

Do this simple exercise a minimum of 5 minutes 3-4 times a day and/or when you're feeling particularly stressed.(Realize, of course, that doing this while driving is NOT recommended or even possible without dying!!)

Tune in next week to find out why this simple little technique is so effect for relaxation.

The "Trick" With The Nicotine Trick!

Welcome back!

Last week, I wrote a bit about the fact that cigarettes have a few sneaky things about them that cause some people some grief when they are quitting. I already wrote about the sugar, but this week I want to tackle more with the Nicotine Trick.

Just to review, The Nicotine Trick is this: after a person smokes a cigarette, there's a delayed reaction (roughly 20 minutes) in which the chemicals cause a person to experience the same physical sensations as anxiety - skin tightens, hairs rise on the back of the neck, etc. All of this makes a person feel ill at ease.

Well, the reason why this causes the cigarette habit to be reinforced in some people is due to the stress in peoples' lives. You see, many people look to something, anything, to relieve stress in their lives. Whether it's sex, jogging, laughter, food or whatever, each of us looks to relieve stress in some way...even though for most of us, it's a subconscious decision.

All of this means that when The Nicotine Trick is triggered, the smoker feels stressed because he/she is feeling the physical signs of anxiety. So, to relieve the stress, the person incorrectly believes that smoking a cigarette will relieve that stress...which is unfortunate because what they're doing is simply keeping the circle going and setting themselves up for another "stressed feeling" in 20 minutes!

People believe that the cigarette is causing them to reduce stress in part because they're taking a break from whatever stressful activity they're doing for a few minutes. In a work environment, these "smoke breaks" are often (or WERE often) built into the day's schedule.

The fact of the matter is this: simply by walking away from a stressful situation for a few minutes is all that is needed to reduce stress. The cigarette is merely the excuse to walk away!

If you need a stress break, by all means take one....it's healthy, beneficial and necessary! Healthy activities that one can do during a stress break include: getting a drink of water, going for a walk, calling a friend and more.

Next week, I'll reveal a simple stress management technique you can do to lower your stress level instantly.

Sugar & The Nicotine Trick In Cigarettes

Welcome back to the official blog of the Niagara Falls Hypnosis Center! I'll tell new readers right up front that I go out of my way to make my writing style friendly and conversational, so I hope you enjoy my style. Onto this week's article...

The more I learn in the world of hypnosis and helping people to become non-smokers the more amazed I am at what cigarette companies do to "hook" new smokers and KEEP them hooked.

First, most people do not know this, but there is actually 1/2 a teaspoon in each cigarette! This was an astounding fact I recently learned. The fact that people have a difficulty giving up cigarettes "cold Turkey" can be partially attributed to this little-known fact about cigarettes. What this means is people are in many cases craving this unknown sugar and not the cigarettes themselves.

If you are a smoker, arming yourself with this knowledge will make quitting easier.

The second interesting fact is what's known as "The Nicotine Trick." Nicotine, that insidious substance in cigarettes, when smoked triggers a physical reaction in the human body which perfectly mimics the feelings associated with anxiety: the skin tightens, heart rate increases, "hairs raise on the back of your neck" and so on.

Here is the really sneaky part about this: this reaction by nicotine is a delayed reaction, meaning that the effect does not happen until 20 minutes or so AFTER the cigarette has been smoked!

This knowledge has a profound effect on the "positive" effects that smokers claim cigarettes give them. In next week's article, I will write specifically on why the Nicotine Trick is just that - a trick!

Until next time...
